My Story so far

Born in Ireland with Irish ancestry must help to have some artistic DNA within me.  Arriving in my middle years late to fine art painting, drawing has always been part of my life, with a pencil always near at hand.

Second level technical school brought mechanical and technical drawing. Third level Regional College construction studies course, brought architectural drawing. While this was the career path planned, life of course had a different destination.

The majority of my working career has been in business information systems and accounting in the builders providers end of the  construction industry, at director level with a subsidiary of a European wide PLC. While drawing was not required on a day to day basis, a drawing or sketch always helped in construction related matters for family and friends. Doing one’s own drawings for planning applications was a gift when required.

Having always spent spare time in the outdoors walking, hill walking, gardening, traveling, the landscape and the environment has always played a part in my personal development. While a camara was always at hand, it was gallery visits during my travels which generated my life long love of viewing the painted landscape. Finally when the opportunity arose I returned to more artistic drawing and the destination of fine art painting.

While my painting technique  is self taught, life drawing classes at ‘The MTU Crawford art school’  in Cork city was the foundation for me to look at a subject in a different way. Hue, tone, lights and darks were new vocabulary to me. Books, magazines and the web also played their part. And so my new journey had begun.

My first exhibition took place over the June 2024 weekend, Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June , 10.00am to 5.00pm at Hazelhurst House, Castle Road, Monkstown, Co Cork,  T12P308. I enjoyed the experience of sharing both my love of creating art and discussing the paintings I had on display.

If you visited thank you. If you left a comment in my visitor book, the time you took is very much appreciated.

If you purchased a painting, may I say a special thank you and trust it will receive a special place in your home.
